Next up for VGA, Saturday, June 2, 2018, Falcon Dunes (2) 7:30 AM 45.00.

Falcon Golf Club opened for play in 1997 and quickly became a valley favorite for first class public golf at affordable golf rates. Brian Curley of Landmark Golf Company designed Falcon Golf Club. Majestically nestled around the Estrella & White Tank Mountains, the front nine is target style with desert like conditions and the back nine is more traditional with bunkers, water, and trees separating the fairways and greens. The golf course plays at 6733 yards from the back tees with par of 71. Falcon Golf Club has been known for having greens and fairways in great condition. Falcon is a great venue for tournaments because the golf course is playable for the beginning golfer yet challenging for the advanced golfer.

and he did it again. Last week or so Tom encountered a snake at Whirlwind Golf course and Gordon was nowhere around. But he did tame Troon North Pinnacle course with a stunning 64 net and that’s a fairly no it is a tough course. Well done Tom and a nice win. Hope the snake went away. Wednesday, May 16th, 2018 / The 500 Club / Wed. Champion of Champions Play

Hot and Breezy today at the 500 Club course. Tom Willis finished just below the glory line but I saw he captured two good Birdies and one very good Eagle on hole # 18. Nice finish Tom outstanding in fact. Danny Delgado (64) finished first in Flight one standings followed by Mike Roether in second and Don Pierce in third and Larry Burton adds to his mantle another Atta Boy. Flight 2 winner was Neal Fisel (69) followed by John Pierce (2nd) and Margaret Storms (3rd) and amazingly enough, the Dean of VGA Gordon Lukert drove all the way over from Gilbert to capture the Atta Boy. A purist he is hopeful he won at cards.

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2018 / Verrado Founders course

John Fought and Tom Lehman collaborated on the course at Verrado Golf Club, a voluptuous design that meanders through the old Caterpillar bulldozer proving grounds. It’s up and down for 18 holes and that doesn’t mean “chip and a putt.” The course is a good test with chances to score and a handful of memorable and scenic holes. Where Verrado Golf Course will eat you alive is in the bunkers. Some bunkers are hard to carry, others collect wayward shots. But the fairways are wide enough to avoid trouble, and what appears to be the safe shot off the tee will often bring greenside bunkers more into play. So pick your poison. While the back nine is far superior to the front, going out still has its fair share of memorable holes. A huge boulder 30 feet tall on the par-4 eighth jets out from the left side around which the fairway shapes itself. A perfect line from the tee box is to take the ball five yards right off its edge, but hitting the boulder is certain death by desert. The boulder was scheduled to crumble via dynamite, but stood up to the TNT and was deemed an immovable object. Open and playable for all skill levels, the Verrado Golf Club is a sublime experience.

No scores under 70 today high winds no doubt. Congrats to John Adair a big hitter for getting all the birdie money today. He got all the good ones anyway. Good for him and maybe a little local knowledge helped since he lives out there. Well done John and the rest of the winners.
