Wednesday, November 29th / Stonecreek

Etched into the desert on the pristine terrain in the heart of Phoenix, Stonecreek Golf Club’s magnificent par-71, 6,871-yard championship course was originally designed by Gary Grandstaff and Roy Dye, brother of the iconic Pete Dye and part of the Dye Designs dynasty. The course was subsequently re-designed by noted golf course architect Arthur Hills & Associates to modernize course infrastructure and bring it up to today’s standards while incorporating numerous environmentally-friendly maintenance and agronomy practices. The result is an adventurous, breathtaking links-style layout that has been rated four stars by Golf Digest. Mature trees frame emerald green Bermuda fairways and hilly, elevated greens, with creek beds meandering throughout the course and coming into play on five holes – adding to the course’s beauty as well as its strategic diversity. While challenging for scratch golfers, five sets of tees on each hole enable golfers of all ages and abilities to enjoy this picturesque desert golf gem, which features panoramic vistas of the Squaw Peak Mountains from every hole.

Next up for VGA, Saturday, December 2nd, 2017 at Falcon Golf Club 8:00 AM $ 40.

Falcon Golf Club opened for play in 1997 and quickly became a valley favorite for first class public golf at affordable golf rates. Brian Curley of Landmark Golf Company designed Falcon Golf Club. Majestically nestled around the Estrella & White Tank Mountains, the front nine is target style with desert-like conditions and the back nine is more traditional with bunkers, water, and trees separating the fairways and greens. The golf course plays at 6733 yards from the back tees with par of 71. Falcon Golf Club has been known for having greens and fairways in great condition. Falcon is a great venue for tournaments because the golf course is playable for the beginning golfer yet challenging for the advanced golfer.

Ken McDonald is one of the most active and reasonably priced 18 hole par 72 championship golf courses in the metropolitan Phoenix area with a full-service restaurant and bar. The golf course was built in 1974 and designed by the famous local architect Jack Snyder. This 18-hole championship course provides an excellent round of golf for every skill level at an affordable price. This well-maintained course has been a favorite to Arizona golfers and is consistently ranked as one of the area’s top daily fee courses. The course, while flat, has well-placed hazards that provide a fun and challenging golf experience. Ken McDonald also hosts a fantastic program for junior golfers.
Danny Delgado winner today at Kenny Mac with a 62 net

Danny Delgado wins today at Ken McDonald with a 62 net, my God man you are good. The Golden Boy Rusty Silverman took 2nd place with 65 net. Way to go Rusty. Eddie Litte captured third place with a 66 net and Larry Burton came home with the Atta-A-Boy at 67 net. Some extra fun items in our group today, Bill Heller had the bad luck to hit 7 consecutive balls into the lake in front # 12 par three and finished with 18 on the hole. Haven’t seen anything like that since  I took a 14 on number 10 at Ocotillo on another occasion. Some days are a stone for sure. Here’s another strange one for sure. I purchased some reconditioned Calaway Soft golf balls recently, and I noticed something didn’t look right. The ball had actually split, I’d like to say that I actually crushed this ball, but I’m thinking defective. Take a look what would you say? Next up for VGA Stonecreek on Wednesday. The Victory Course is unlike any you’ve played. First off, the setting is stunning: wide swaths of green fairways set beneath towering rock faces. Giant granite boulders dot the high desert landscape. And the dramatic backdrop of the White Tank Mountains reminds us why we live here. Also set within the tranquil canyons and coves of the White Tanks, is Verrado Golf Club’s the Founders Course. This breathtaking course has earned a top 5 spot on GolfWeek’s “2016 Best Courses You Can Play,” making 2016 the fourth year in a row Verrado has been honored to make the list, going from number 16 in 2013 all the way to 4 in 2016!

Winner like Chicken Dinner, Jim Niblack dusts the field with a 64 net score. Keep that up Jim your going to take home a Big Dog reward next year, Well done. Three players tied at 67 net 2nd place went to Tom Willis on a scorecard playoff with 3rd place going to Fred “Steady Freddy” Baldwin following with the Atta-A-Boy award to Jake Nicol all at 67 net those back nines count. Well done too guys. Did any one keep track of any amazing rock bounces today. Best one I saw Saturday was a 40 yard reverse bounce from a rock oddly enough in the middle of the fairway by the Legend himself Dan Clark. Simply Legendary. I had a couple of those myself.  Next up the Palmbrook event on Saturday featuring the 2nd and Final round of the 2017 VGA Club Championship. The Sun hardly came out full strength this morning and in fact, we even experienced a few rain sprinkles bout halfway through. Weather and course were excellent. Tom  Hebert was the man of the day as he charged in with a 66 net for 1st place. Whoa, Roc and I left early and just now found out I came in 2nd place. Much to my chagrin what with all the low 60 scores some of the guys have been putting up I didn’t think my 68 net had a chance. I’m a happy guy considering I was thinking about burning the clubs lately. Rusty Silverman came in with a 70 net tied with Richard Brooks who also had a 70 net. Rusty won third place on a scorecard playoff and Richard took home the Atta-A-Boy. Next up Wednesday Ken McDonald in Tempe. Remember it will be cart path only we’ve been told.
