So it’s like old times again, Bill Heller takes 1st place as his vision improved enough to find his ball most of the time and he scored an excellent 64 net to out duel his closest competitor by 5 strokes. Way to go Bill. Tim Haight was that guy as he took 2nd place with a 69 net score. Getting back in the saddle again eh Tim? Larry Burton ties Rusty Silverman at 70 net for 3rd place, which he takes on a scorecard playoff. The Golden Boy is stuck with the Atta-a-Boy. Next up Bear Creek Wednesday. Rest of the field’s scores below.
Next up for VGA, Wednesday August 2, 2017 – Shot Gun Bear Creek 7:15:00 AM $33.00.
Southern Dunes can be rewarding and it can be frustrating. One thing I know for sure is if you don’t stay on the course you’re going to have a very difficult time. I may have lost a dozen golf balls today (lost track). Not fun. Started well with a Bird on number 2 and went to the next hole and pulled three new Calaways into the weeds I couldn’t find. I went down hill from there. Xed out on 15. Apologies to Bob Watson my 2,2&2 partner for leaving him stranded but I wasn’t into anymore self abuse. But so much for my day. My cart partner on the other hand was playing the best game of his recent history. Considering his age he has lots of past history. Nothing puts a smile on Uncle G’s face like deflating his playing partners wallets. When he was finished with us he went on to take the whole tournament with an amazing 63 net tie with Rich Golz. He topped himself with a 41 on the back nine to win 1st place on the scorecard playoff system. Because he never makes birdies and other reasons, he never enters the birdie pool. To bad, he birdied twice today on 12 and 13 holes. Over all not bad for the aged Dean of VGA. Rich Golz took 2nd place of course and John Euler got third place. Congratulations to both of them. Atta-a-Boy goes to our best gross score player, Doug Patterson. Doug had a nice 77 gross today. Need to work on the sandbagging Doug. Next up for VGA on Saturday TPC Champions course. Rest of the field’s scores below.
Next up for VGA, Saturday, July 29, 2017 TPC Champions (+) 7:30:00 AM $51.00.
Two in a row for Rich Golz, he wins the Falcon Dunes event today with a nice 67 net, he won the previous Wednesday event too at Troon North Pinnacle. On a roll my friend. Second place goes to returning from vacation President, Tony Dalton with a like he never left 68 net. Four players tied for 3rd place at 69 net. Dan Christainsen get the 3rd place prize on a scorecard playoff. Bill Heller, Doug Patterson, and Tony Rodriquez share the Atta-a-Boy. Geez doesn’t that usually go to Dan? Next up Southern Dunes part deux this month. Be there it’s a very challenging course. Rest of the scores are below.
Next up for VGA, Wednesday, July 26, 2017 Southern Dunes 7:30:00 AM $35.00.
Sorry for all the technical stuff today finally cleared it all up, Rich Golz takes 1st today with a 65 net. Fred Baldwin captured 2nd place at 66 net and Dave Dean was 3rd at 68 net. Doug Patterson was the true Atta-a-Boy. Rest of the scores are below. Don’t forget, Falcon Dunes players must pay Fred in Cash ($45) at the Course, $39 for Vets, Firemen, and 1st Responders. See you at the Dunes.
Next up for VGA, Saturday, July 22, 2017 Falcon Dunes (3) 7:30:00 AM $45.00.
Ben Hughes beats Southern Dunes, the humidity and the heat to win the event today with a 66 net by one stroke over 2nd place finisher, Margaret Storms. Margaret shot a 67 net today. She was in my group so I got to see it first hand. As always very steady down the middle but her putting was awesome today. She made a very tricky 40 footer from off the fringe of the Par 3 hole # 4 green that would make any Pro proud. Nice work Margaret. The “Golden Boy” Rusty Silverman and Chris Ray locked up in a tie with 68 net scores. Rusty won out on a scorecard playoff and Chris alas gets the Atta-a-Boy. Troon North is up on Wednesday with the rest of the field’s scores below.
Next up for VGA, Wednesday, July 19, 2017 Troon North 7:30:00 AM $52.00

Hot and muggy and a little late getting started but the course was magnificent. In condition and everything else, the Boulders for $52 is an absolute steal of a deal. Dan Christiansen topped the field today at 68 net for 1st place money breaking his string of Atta-a-Boys. Coming in at a tie score 71 nets were myself (Harley Ewing) and Rich Golz. I actually beat him on a scorecard playoff. I never beat anyone one on a scorecard playoff especially on a back nine playoff. Let this luck run forever. I get 2nd and Rich gets third. Fred Baldwin, Randy Walton and John Euler share the Atta-a-Boy with 73 net scores. If you haven’t tried Southern Dunes you really should. It’s the next event this coming Saturday. Rest of the Fields scores are below.

A man and a friend are playing golf one day at their local golf course. The man is about to chip onto the green when he sees a long funeral procession on the road next to the course. He stops in mid-swing, takes off his golf cap, closes his eyes, and bows down in prayer. His friend says: “Wow, that is the most thoughtful and touching thing I have ever seen. You truly are a kind man.” The man replies: “Yeah, well we were married 35 years.”
The Pun of the day
King Ozymandias of Assyria was running low on cash after years of war with the Hittites. His last great possession was the Star of the Euphrates, the most valuable diamond in the ancient world. Desperate, he went to Croesus, the pawnbroker, to ask for a loan. Croesus said, “I’ll give you 100,000 dinars for it”. “But I paid a million dinars for it,” the King protested. “Don’t you know who I am? I am the king!” Croesus replied, “When you wish to pawn a Star, makes no difference who you are.”
Wow the Monsoon is here. Humidity taking over some. Fred Baldwin won the Los Caballeros event today with a 71 net score. Followed in second place, Ben Hughes at 72 net. Third place went to Rusty Silverman at 73 net. Three lucky entrants share the Atta-a-Boy at 76 net. They were, Dan Christiansen, Rich Golz, and Tony Rodriquez. Sure you guys had a great time in Wickenburg today and be sure to sign up for the Boulders event on Wednesday. An opportunity to play a Winter time priced course of $300 for just $52. Hard to beat and the Scenery is Arizona to the max. Rest of today’s field scores are below.
Next up for VGA, Wednesday, July 12, 2017 The Boulders 7:30:00 AM $52.00.
Projected temp for today was 115 for Phoenix, but starting at 630 am sure cuts done on the length of exposure to the elements. Doing my best to hold it together out there, I some how managed to do just that. You could ask Steve Richter my cart partner for the day. I hit some very lucky shots and putted for me anyway, lights out. I won it with a 65 net score. Tied at 68 nets were Ron Gunderson and Rich Golz. Ron got second on the scorecard playoff and Rich got third. Steve Richter takes home the Atta-a-boy. Next up a trip to Wickenburg to visit the Los Caballeros course there. Play it and you will love it. Rest of the Raptor field below. One personal note, it was great to see Uncle G out and playing today. Last Monday at San Marcos he suffered the venomous bites from two very large snakes on the front and back nines there and acted very ill. Unfortunately for him he was bitten again on the front nine by one of those same snakes on the Raptor today. Oh well hope he won at cards. Will make him feel better.
Next up for VGA, Saturday, July 8, 2017 Los Caballeros (2) 8:00:00 AM $44.00.
A name from the recent past is back in town. Larry Burton captures 1st place in the Quintero event played today. I could probably promise you shooting 63 net on that course would not be easy. Great work and well done. Go home now ;). Three other players scored a tie at 69 net for all the rest of today’s awards. On the scorecard playoff, Rusty “Golden Boy” Silverman got 2nd place with Dan Delgado getting 3rd place and Bill Myers scored the Atta-a-Boy. Lot of Birdies out there today. Next up Grayhawk’s Raptor course this coming Wednesday. Don’t miss out on that one. Rest of today’s scores are below.
Next up for VGA, Wednesday, July 5, 2017 Grayhawk-Raptor 7:15:00 AM $52.00.
