Saturday, December 31, 2016 / Falcon Dunes and Happy New Year.

Falcon Golf Club opened for play in 1997 and quickly became a valley favorite for first class public golf at affordable golf rates. Brian Curley of Landmark Golf Company designed Falcon Golf Club. Majestically nestled around the Estrella & White Tank Mountains, the front nine is target style with desert like conditions and the back nine is more traditional with bunkers, water, and trees separating the fairways and greens. The golf course plays at 6733 yards from the back tees with par of 71. Falcon Golf Club has been known for having greens and fairways in great condition. Falcon is a great venue for tournaments because the golf course is playable for the beginning golfer yet challenging for the advanced golfer.

It appeared it might be another raining and blowing day out there today, but apparently not. Tony said it rained a little around tee off time then quit and didn’t rain again during the event. Bet against rain in AZ and you’re a winner most of the time. By all reports the Falcon Dunes track is a great one so be sure to play it when you get a chance. Who is this guy Al Dan? He won another one. Today he got 1st place money with a 67 net, and well done Al. 2nd place went to Kevin Gilmore at 69 net and 3rd place went to the Golden Lad from PV, Rusty Silverman at 70 net. Nice work guys and thanks for having the courage to come out with the bad weather predicted. VGA wishes you all a Happy New Year and we trust to see you all next year at Legacy Wednesday. Don’t forget to renew your dues tonight. Save $5 bucks if you do. Rest of the field scores below.

Next event for VGA, Wednesday, January 4, 2017 Legacy – shotgun 8:30 $53.00.

The Legacy Golf Club, rich in heritage and history, is an 18-hole par 71 championship golf course designed by renowned golf course architect Gary Panks. Located on what was once Dwight B. Heard’s 7,500-acre ranch, the golf club is rich in Arizona heritage and history. Taking great pride in preserving and integrating many of the historical structures and monuments, our 18-hole championship golf course offers a unique look and an added opportunity to experience some Arizona history and of the Heard legacy, from which the golf club takes its name. The original two-grain silos, built in 1902, still remain along the 18th fairway and were once the tallest structures in Maricopa County. The Sierra Vista House, which marks the 1st tee, was visited on occasion in the early 1900’s by Theodore Roosevelt and Pancho Villa. Come make your own history at the Legacy Golf Club!

Wednesday, December 28, 2016-Palmbrook

Originally opening in 1972, Palmbrook Country Club offers the most FUN Golf Country Club experience in Sun City, Arizona. The 6,500 yard Jeff Hardin designed golf course offers an exceptional park style tree lined golf course with newly updated bunkers and course amenities. The brook meandering through the back nine enhances the beauty of the course while putting a premium on well hit tee shots.

Ken “Wild Thing” Baca takes the 1st place prize today at Palmbrook with a stunning 64 net. Great job Kenny. Second place goes to Kevin Gilmore at 66 net, two strokes off Ken’s winning pace. Now it gets interesting, Tom “No Shoes” Hecocks took third place but some how he was too fugal to get in the prize pot. He got some birdie money but not 3rd place money. Two guys were tied at 68, Fred “Steady Freddy” Baldwin got the third place money on a scorecard playoff with Chris Ray. Chris, sorry you got the Atta-a-Boy. Rest of the field below.

I really like ASU Karsten. It’s really a fun but frustrating course to play. If you play from the wrong tees even more frustrating. DQed but unbowed my group played on and had a great day. Golf gods were not happy. Oh well, next. Winner today was  none other than Rich Golz with a 71 net. Way to go Rich. Second place to John Euler at 74 net. Third place to back from Utah to enjoy the Winter, Bob Brown. Well done Bob. Rest of the field below.

Wednesday, December 7, 2016-Arizona Biltmore Links Course

The younger of the Biltmore family; smart, fresh and a bit precocious, this celebrated layout has quickly earned the respect of golfers everywhere as a premier Arizona golf course. Rolling fairways lined with luscious pines meander through some of the most stunning homes in Phoenix. Well-bunkered greens demand precision-shot selection, and the contoured grounds roll as they come. If you can accurately place the ball, you will be rewarded in your score.

Tom Giljum got second place one stroke off the lead at 67 net. Two players tied at 69 net and they were Fred Baldwin and Dave Dean. Course Steady Freddy won on the scorecard playoff for third and Dave got the Atta-a-Boy. Following are the rest of the field’s scores. Interesting scoring today. Neal Fisel playing one of his better rounds of the year maybe the best, scored 65 net to win first place at Western Skies today. Great work Neal. Second place goes the man who epitomizes the word steady, Tim Haight with a 66 net.  Tim you were steady as a rock. Third place goes to a hero of sorts playing with a badly torn shoulder and the best round I’ve seen him play in awhile, Grady McEachern gets third at 67 net and not in the pot so no dough. His cart partner Steve Richter got the 3rd place money at 69 net. Great job Grady you played well today indeed. Hope you guys enjoyed Western Skies today. I live close by and they have made the course a lot better in my opinion. The turf and greens were in great shape and I look forward to playing there later this month. Full field scores below.
